Our Club - Jan 2024
Welcome to our first newsletter of 2024! Despite the weather, and thanks to the astro-turf, we’re still seeing good use of our courts throughout this colder season – well done you hardy lot! Based on your inputs, we’re putting together exciting plans for 2024, but as ever, we rely on our members to help deliver ourclub and tennis programme…please keep posted for opportunities to get involved and help keep our club a great place to be...

a warm welcome to teddy!
Congratulations to Tom and Chloe on the birth of Edward (Teddy) Thomas Fowler on 27 December 2023. What a smiley boy!
Please join me in wishing the new family well for the future and we look forward to seeing Teddy on court soon!
christmas at btc
Tom Jackson and Tommy Simpson hosted a fun open Christmas tournament on 23 December which was enjoyed by around 50 people (either playing or watching!) There were some great outfits and we should give a special mention to Nikki Black who went all out in her Christmas attire (maybe a picture of that for the next edition???).
Juniors and adults went into mixed random teams, a raffle was held and £106 was raised for The Trussell Trust (a charity providing emergency food and support for those facing hardship).
While having fun was the biggest aim, there had to be a winning team – well done to Mike Cribb, Nikki Black, Miles Payne and Christopher Chalmers. Kudos also to Tim Axford who was the fastest server on the day.
Thank you to everyone who participated and particularly to Tom and Tommy for organising the event. We would love to run more of these fun events in the future – all ideas welcomed!
PS Also spotted during December was our league players enjoying the last tennis of the year, along with some nibbles, drinks and questionable Christmas jumpers:

2024 club tournament - get involved!
Our Club Tournament is an annual event, open to all members across many different events, and running up to a finals weekend in early September. As well as the tennis, it’s always a great social event and a way of meeting other club members and enjoying each others' company.
Every year, we try to evolve and enhance the tournament to get as many people in the club playing and involved. We are looking for a team to organise this year’s event - why not volunteer, bring new ideas and PUT YOUR SPIN ON IT?

HAVE YOUR SAY...our MEMBER SURVEY
Thank you again to the 97 people who completed our Member Survey - we'll continue to share key themes / proposed actions with you over the next few months.
One question in the survey related to the re-surfacing of courts 1 & 2 which will be our major capital project for this year. Contractor quotes have been obtained for different surfacing options and, in addition to cost, multiple other factors have been considered such as playability, safety, durability, maintenance, etc. as well as the preferences of our members.
72% of you wanted artificial turf on these courts– and so I am delighted we can give you your wish! The contractor is booked for August and more will be shared on the project as it progresses.
A big thank you to John Tate and Steve Stephens for liaising with contractors and comparing / contrasting quotes.
